Tips for making your Graphic Designer Resume

If you are a graphic designer on the job hunt, your resume is very important. Almost as if not more important than your portfolio. Your resume will be the first thing a potential employer sees. Your resume will be your first impression and you definitely want to make a rememberable one.

What is the difference between a graphic design resume and any other resume is that a graphic design resume has a more personalized style. Adding your style to your resume will catch the potential employers eye and gain insight to your style and personality.

Being a designer, this is your chance to impress the potential employer with your style and design capabilities. Don’t go overboard! In the end, the information on the resume is the most important part. Show off your design skills with visual elements.

A graphic design resume should be readable so be careful which fonts you choose to use and the size on your resume. Times new roman font is the most common font used and majority consider it over used so I would avoid Times New Roman and Helvetica and any style that is extremely similar. Even if you have to submit your resume as a Word document avoid these fonts!

What should be included in your graphic design resume:

    · Name and Contact Information
    · Personal Statement/Objective
    · Experience
    · Education
    · Software Skills
    · Capabilities
    · References

Make sure to include the above elements in your resume. Once finished, make sure to have someone proof read your resume and offer any constructive criticism. It is very important that there are no grammatical or typographical errors. Even the simplest mistake could be a turn off and make your effort wasted.
